The first biggest advantage of owning a CMS website is "version control." This means you are able to manage changes to your documents when they are in need of updating or editing. Setting permissions makes it possible for more than one person to add, edit and/or delete content in your website. Amazingly, it can be done right from your browser with immediate display, from different media devices, such asyour computer, cell phone, ipad, etc.
Generally, website owners have to contact their developer to do any type of editing and/or updating. You also hear something along the lines of," this will cost $40 an hour" (or more) and may take a day or two, maybe weeks before you fit into their schedule. By then your updates are falling behind. A site not using a CMS makes it impossible for the not-so-techy person, to update information, but a site using CMS allows you, the owner, or anyone you choose, to update information "on-the-fly". No need to know HTML!
Web content management systems
" A web content management (WCM) system is a CMS designed to simplify the publication of web content to web sites and mobile devices—in particular, allowing content creators to submit content without requiring technical knowledge of HTML or the uploading of files.
Several web-based content management systems exist both in the Open Source and commercial domains."
